The BCS Greater Heights Clubhouse (GHC) opened in 1995. The Clubhouse operated in East New York until 2021, before it moved to its current location in Bushwick. For nearly three decades, it has functioned as a community-based rehabilitation program for those with a history of mental illness. Many Clubhouse members face additional barriers such as chemical dependency, illiteracy, and housing/job insecurity. The GHC is accredited by Clubhouse International and follows the International Standards for Clubhouse Programs.
The program consists of three units: education & employment, food service, and administrative tasks. Within the Clubhouse, this “work ordered” day parallels normal working hours. Both staff and members work side by side to run the daily operations of the program. The aim of this model is to prepare members for independent living and future employment.
The Clubhouse partners with a diverse set of employers to connect members with paid, entry level employment. The program helps individuals overcome the vocational challenges associated with persistent mental illness.
