Staff Spotlight: Gabrielle Wasserstien, PROS

BCS PROS (Personalized Recovery Oriented Services) is a nurturing adult psychiatric rehabilitation program that supports mental health recovery, independent living, and greater community participation through services such as art therapy, Cognitive Remediation Therapy, optional psychiatric services, and more. But beyond the services offered, what makes PROS impactful is the consistency, care, and assurance participants receive from the staff who show up for them every day.

That is what Assistant Director, Gabrielle Wasserstein, brings to the PROS team.

For Gabrielle, the most rewarding part of her work is seeing how PROS makes a real difference in participants’ lives. Many participants come to the program after hospitalization or during a difficult point in their recovery journey, but recovery does not happen overnight. It happens with consistent attendance, active participation, and the right support. Gabrielle and the PROS team get to be that support system for participants, witnessing them grow more stable, confident, and connected to their goals.

Her care for participants is matched by her commitment to the team. Gabrielle is known for stepping in wherever she is needed, whether that means training new staff, helping colleagues admin concerns, collaborating on clinical interventions, serving lunch to participants, or covering the front desk without hesitation. No task is too big or too small for Danielle when it supports the success of the program.

Her supervisor and Program Director, Ivy Hanfling, describes Gabrielle as someone who is “proactively invested in the wellbeing and success of PROS,” noting her ability to problem-solve, collaborate with the team, support staff development, and continuously seek out new trainings to strengthen her knowledge and expertise.

This July, Gabrielle celebrates three years with PROS, and in August, she will mark one year as Assistant Director. She credits much of her growth to the support of Ivy and the PROS team.

Above all, Gabrielle hopes participants remember how deeply she cares about their well-being.

“My goal is to help them have a more fulfilling quality of life,” she shares, “as their lives matter just as much as anybody else.”
