For over 40 years, the Laurie A. Cumbo Children’s Enrichment Center has served Brooklyn families as a leader in early childhood education. Since its founding, the preschool has been a critical resource for thousands of residents in Fort Greene and surrounding neighborhoods, providing free, accessible, and educationally rich childcare to the community.
Our center’s 3-K and Pre-K Programs use a play-based, exploratory approach that offers developmentally appropriate and enriching learning opportunities. This curriculum helps turn students into lifelong learners and prepares them for school and life.
Teachers and staff create a positive, supportive, and nurturing environment. We provide free healthy breakfast, lunch, and snacks according to CACFP nutritional standards. The Cumbo Center also receives the hands-on support of an Education Director and BCS staff educators who guide curriculum and learning.
Our center (formerly known as the Duffield Children’s Center) relocated to Myrtle Avenue in 2021. The Center’s new name was chosen in recognition of New York City Council Majority Leader Laurie A. Cumbo, because of her career serving Brooklynites and subsequent contributions to the Center’s new state-of-the-art building.
This new location in Fort Greene, right around the corner from the old one, has enhanced the Center’s already high-quality care with thoughtfully crafted play and learning spaces. The Cumbo Center is proud to provide multi-sensory, literacy-rich, and collaborative education to students through bright and engaging indoor play areas.
