The Coney Island Family Enrichment Center is officially opening in 2025! The center will be co-led by an advisory group of community members who choose the center’s name, decide on the decor, and help spread the word. The Coney Island Family Enrichment Center (CFEC) is a community-run and designed program that fosters community connection and helps all family members be their best selves. Guided by the belief that parents and other community members are the experts in their own lives, our center’s co-design approach encourages community ownership, respect, and equity in Coney Island. We lift up strengths in each child, youth, and adults who walk through our doors and support healthy family functioning.
Our center will partner with local leaders, businesses, and civic organizations, providing physical and virtual space with offerings that help individuals dream big dreams, make community and personal connections, and get the support most helpful to them. Our parent leaders help design and, at times, co-lead offerings with staff, keeping a focus on three main areas:
At our center, all community members are welcome to participate in any of the following:
We also collaborate with community partners and agencies to bring in resources based on
the desires of the community. This ensures that resources are within easy reach for all community members. Offerings change as the community’s interests change and the advisory group helps our staff make decisions.
While we don’t have a location selected for this program yet (coming soon!), you can get more information by signing up for updates or emailing Jessica Tenzer at Jtenzer@WeAreBCS.org.
BCS works in neighborhoods impacted by systemic poverty. We strengthen communities by fostering the educational success of children, the leadership development of youth, the employment and housing stability of adults, the advancement of individuals living with disabilities, and the empowerment of seniors and families.
