School is out, summer is here, and our Cumbo Center Pre-K students are officially moving on up to Kindergarten! 🤯
This week, families gathered in the Cumbo Center Multipurpose Room to celebrate our 25 newest graduates as they received their graduation certificates and marked a very special milestone.
We are so proud of our students for all the learning, growing, exploring, and hard work they poured into this school year. We cannot wait to see what they go on to accomplish next, because this is only the beginning!
We are also deeply grateful to our Cumbo Center educators and Program Director, Ms. Perez, for the love, patience, care, and joy they bring into school every day. Their work helps nurture the future of Brooklyn, one bright young learner at a time.
Congratulations to our Pre-K graduates! Kindergarten, here they come! 🎓💙

This weekend, our BCS Fatherhood Program celebrated Father’s Day with its second annual Legacy Game, a powerful community celebration honoring the role fathers play in their children’s lives every day.
In partnership with Brooklyn Basketball, a basketball training center powered by the NY Liberty and the Brooklyn Nets, fathers and their children from across the community came together for a day of connection, competition, and celebration.
From the community tournament to family resources, supplies, and fun giveaways, to the pure moments of joy on and off the court, the Legacy Game was a beautiful reminder of what happens when fathers are supported, celebrated, and surrounded by a community that truly roots for them.
As Chad Williams, Deputy Director of BCS’s Families, Community Building, and Workforce Development Division, shared:
“[The day] was bigger than basketball. Bigger than giveaways. Bigger than an event. We created a space where fathers felt seen, families felt supported, and our community felt loved.”
Congratulations to our Fatherhood Program team, Brooklyn Basketball, and every father, child, and family member who helped make this year’s Legacy Game such a success. 💙🏀

✨ BCS STAFF SPOTLIGHT! ✨
Meet Sadaf Sheikh, Program Director at BCS`s O`Dwyer Gardens Community Center.
Sadaf takes immense pride in creating a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for the center`s youth and families.
“I enjoy building meaningful relationships with participants and seeing them grow more confident, engaged, and successful over time. One of the best parts of my day is hearing the participants’ giggles and laughter throughout the program,” says Sadaf.
Since many of the community center participants are young people, Sadaf makes it her mission to ensure they know that she and the BCS team are rooting for them and genuinely care about their growth, success, and well-being.
“My goal is to leave a lasting impact by helping young people build confidence, discover their strengths, and understand that their voice, dreams, and future matter.”
Our BCS team does vital work that strengthens and develops Brooklyn. We are grateful for employees like Sadaf, who spark growth by fostering community, resilience, and care in every participant they encounter.

Health, wellness, resources, and a little fun in the sun. ☀️💙
Our BCS Beacon Program recently hosted a Community Health Fair at Oxport Park, bringing together more than a dozen vendors and community members for a day of connection and care.
The community learned about local health and wellness resources, participated in a basketball clinic, enjoyed massage services, and took part in raffle giveaways.
At its heart, Beacon programming is about creating spaces where young people, families, and neighbors feel supported, connected, and cared for. Learn more about Beacon and other BCS programs at wearebcs.org.
