Mural Arts Project #2

NYC Mural Arts Project (MAP) is a program of the NYC Department of Health and Hygiene that uses a collaborative and unique process to create murals in the community. NYC Map uses the process of creating murals to discuss mental health with participants to promote mental health awareness and break down stigmas associated with mental illness. The conversations with the community regarding mental health are then translated into a mural that reflects the diversity and strength of everyone involved in the mural making process.

Project Details:

Due to COVID-19 and our current reality, the MAP project has been converted to a virtual program. This virtual program will contain weekly discussions through ZOOM which will engage participants in topics such as COVID-19 and social injustice. We will discuss these topics in relation to how they affect mental health to promote mental health awareness and break down stigmas associated with mental illness. The conversations with the community regarding mental health are then translated into artwork that reflects the diversity and strength of everyone involved in the community process.
